As we age, our skin begins to change. This change is often unwanted, and it can include a loss of elasticity, the development of wrinkles and fine lines, sagging, and more. For those who long for a smoother, more youthful complexion, microneedling may hold the answer.

Microneedling: An Overview

During a microneedling session, your provider will create “micro injuries” all over your face. This is done with a dermapen which allows the provider to adjust the depth at which the tiny needles penetrate the skin. These micro injuries signal to the body that repair is necessary, triggering the production of collagen. This leads to a naturally rejuvenating effect.

By tapping into your body’s natural healing potential, microneedling can revitalize the skin and reverse some of the most common signs of aging.

Your Microneedling Appointment: What to Expect

If you have never had a microneedling procedure before, it is only natural to have some questions about what the appointment is like. Here is a general outline of what you can expect.

Before Your Appointment

After we confirm that you are eligible for treatment, we will carefully cleanse your skin. From there, we will apply a topical numbing cream, which ensures that, even as we create micro-injuries across your face, you do not feel any pain or discomfort.

During Your Appointment

The microneedling itself is performed with an FDA-approved dermapen. The microneedling appointment is generally fairly quick, lasting somewhere around 30-60 minutes. Thanks to the topical numbing agent, you should not experience any pain from the procedure.

Recovery from Microneedling

Following microneedling, we recommend that you avoid vigorous exercise (or anything that will result in significant sweating) for at least 72 hours. Other than that, you should feel ready to head back into your normal activities. Most patients return to work the day after their microneedling appointment.

You may experience some redness or mild swelling for a few days. These side effects will subside on their own, but feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
