Blepharoplasty Is Great If You

  • Are over 18 years of age
  • Are in good general health
  • Have heavy, sagging under-eye bags
  • Have excess, hanging skin on the upper eyelids
  • Have vision impacted by excess eyelid skin
  • Are self-conscious about excess eyelid skin
  • Want your eyes to appear more prominent and alert
  • Want to achieve a more youthful, rested appearance

How Old Do I Have to Be?

Most people who seek blepharoplasty have mature skin, but some patients are younger. If you are over 18, you may be eligible for an eyelid lift.

Taking the First Step

Your blepharoplasty journey will begin with an in-office consultation. It’s essential to meet with your plastic surgeon to go over the blepharoplasty process and ensure you know what to expect from treatment. During this appointment, Dr. Sauerhammer will examine the skin around your eyes and discuss your desired outcome.

You can schedule your procedure if you are confirmed to be a good candidate for blepharoplasty. If not, we will discuss alternative options that may be a better fit for you. Our goal is to find the ideal treatment to meet your needs.

Meet the Doctor

Dr. Sauerhammer offers patients nearly a decade of experience and specialization in rejuvenating procedures for the body, breasts, and face. Her practice also includes pediatric plastic surgery, transgender confirmation, reconstructive procedures, and noninvasive cosmetic treatment. She is double-board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

The Blepharoplasty Process Explained

Dr. Sauerhammer will perform your blepharoplasty using general anesthesia for optimal comfort.

Once you are fully asleep, Dr. Sauerhammer will assess your eyelids and the skin surrounding your eyes to determine what they need to remove and lift. They will resect excess skin and place the remaining skin in a higher, tighter position. This technique creates the appearance of a smoother, wider upper eyelid.

If you have bags under your eyes, Dr. Sauerhammer will remove any excess fat or loose skin to create a flat, youthful appearance beneath the eyes.

The entire blepharoplasty process takes about one hour to complete.

Recovery and Aftercare

When your blepharoplasty is complete, you will need to remain in the office under supervision for several hours. After that, our team will discharge you, and you can return home.

Dr. Sauerhammer will place small sutures over any small incisions. These sutures are removed about one week after surgery.

In the weeks following your blepharoplasty, you will need to avoid certain skin care products that can irritate your skin. Do not apply any direct pressure to the area around your eyes. To keep the incisions and skin clean, wash with a mild cleanser.

Upon discharge, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions from the Wisconsin Institute of Plastic Surgery team.

Other Considerations

  • Can I Combine Blepharoplasty with Other Procedures?

There are many other procedures with which you can combine blepharoplasty. Patients frequently combine eyelid lifts with facelifts and neck lifts to achieve a more youthful appearance overall. You can also combine blepharoplasty with non-surgical options like injectables or a more extensive surgery such as breast augmentation.

  • How Long Do the Results Last?

Blepharoplasty will permanently remove excess skin and under-eye bags from around the eyelids. That said, you may experience new sagging or loose skin as the years go on. The natural effects of aging may cause the skin to lose volume and drop downward, but less significantly than before.
