What is Mole Removal?

During this short appointment, your provider will take a look at moles on your body, either with the naked eye or with a special tool called a dermatoscope, and let you know if any of the moles give cause for concern.
In some cases, our specialists may recommend that you have the mole removed with a small blade, a laser, or with chemical compounds. Moles that are removed will then be biopsied, which will let us know whether or not any cancer cells are present.

During The Appointment
We generally ask patients to undress and put on a medical gown, which allows the provider easier access to all body parts where moles might be present. Your provider will perform a visual inspection of your skin, from scalp to toes, and also ask if you have any moles that especially concern you or warrant a look.
How Long Does a Mole Removal Consultation Usually Take?
Mole screenings are usually very brief appointments, and you can anticipate it will take no more than 15 minutes or so.
What Can I Expect After My Screening?
Assuming there is nothing worrisome, your provider will let you know if and when they recommend you schedule your next screening. They will also be happy to answer any questions you have about your skin health.

We also ask patients not to wear makeup to their skin examinations. It is best to wear your hair in a loose style, which allows our physicians to examine your scalp.
